The Paradise Destroyed by the Straight Line
by Corwin Fox
Nothing is linear when you’re travelling on a boat
Body gets skinnier but the mind is free to float
Buildings parallel on a crumbling shore
Sand like caramel in the teeth of a whore
Darkness in the light, indefined silhouettes
Ticking like a clock on a bomb with Tourette’s
Power lines in the grass; continental dead snakes
Fishes float like gold on the arsenic lakes
Buildings that remain hold a curve like our spines
Buildings that collapse all are made with straight lines
Look at what we keep versus what we forsake
Floating on the top of a watery wake
Wake me, ocean horizon
Bending the light that pushes the distance
Into the night
This world wouldn’t heed my crushing defeat
So sing me a spiral, rock me to sleep
Everything fluidoid, Fibonacci in shells
Blossom and dissipate like the ringing of bells
A wave is a salt tooth breaking the skin
A grave is an earth mouth taking you in
Columns of grey men march in a uniform fake
Floating on the top of a watery wake
Wake me, ocean horizon
Bending the light that pushes the distance
Into the night
This world wouldn’t heed my crushing defeat
So sing me a spiral, rock me to sleep
